Real relationships have no end
Something I have noticed in the last three to four months is that we are seeing women we have not seen for a long time back behind the window.
In this newsletter, you will read what may be the causes of this.
Although it is nice to see people you had good contact with again, it is a little different here. Especially for the girls themselves. Debts mounting up and not being able to find a job in the home country are often the cause.
Read below personal stories we encounter in the work we do.
Back behind the window again
A young woman who has been back behind the window for about 5 months has been waiting for several years to receive compensation as a victim of human trafficking. A job could not be found for her in Eastern Europe partly due to the lack of education, qualifications and the necessary experience. She managed to survive for a good two years but at some point the debts are too high and companies and people want their money back.
There you are again with your traumas
Another woman who went back to her country at least seven years ago wrote in early August that she was back in the Netherlands and that she was so sorry for disappointing me. Over the years, we kept in regular contact and met occasionally in her home country.
We were then able to do a nice action for her that allowed her to get out and get a hairdressing degree. She was able to rent a chair in a beauty salon and was just starting to build up a bit of a clientele when corona came. There was no more income for her and debts were mounting fast. She could not pay these off with the small income as a hairdresser after corona. So, she decided to go to
the Faroe Islands for a few months where she worked six days and sometimes seven days a week for about 16 hours a day as a cleaner in hotels.
After a few months, she returned, paid off her debts and tried to go back to work as a hairdresser. That takes time and the debts mounted again. In the following years, she regularly returned to the Faroe Islands but unfortunately she was not needed there this year.
By necessity, she is now back behind the window somewhere in the Netherlands with all her still unprocessed traumas. How can you be disappointed when you know how she has struggled and worked to pick up her life.
From Bright Fame, we want to stay involved in her life and that is why, because of her and other situations, it is so important to build a network in Eastern Europe to continue supporting women so that they can get out long-term. That is why, as Bright Fame, we are investing a lot in expanding our network in Eastern Europe. We are working hard to build a network further. Just to make sure women are taken care of and can stay out. There are safehouses there, they need work and affordable housing. This requires
companies to connect. There is a lot involved; trauma treatment is also badly needed. This all takes time and therefore, of course, money.
