Prostitution facilitates human trafficking
Prostitution facilitates human trafficking and a lot of money goes into it.
In this newsletter, read about numbers and percentages and why human trafficking is so lucrative.
Today is 18 October which, like previous years, means it is the European day against human trafficking. Besides this day on 18 October, we have an international day against human trafficking and several places also have such days. Nowadays, there are also weeks against human trafficking and several cities also have a day. All incredibly good that we are aware that there is human trafficking.
Just a couple of sentences I faced today:
‘Romania is among the main source countries of victims of sexual exploitation, according to a report published in Berlin,’ reports DPA.
‘Human trafficking takes place every day, for example in health care, domestic work, prostitution, agriculture, the meat processing industry or in the construction sector,’ Beate Rudolf, director of the institute, ’said, according to Agerpres.
‘Over 370 million girls and women around the world, or one in eight, have been raped or sexually abused before the age of 18, the UN children’s organisation UNICEF warned in a report released on the eve of International Day of the Girl, on 11 October.’
‘This number rises to 650 million, or one in five, taking into account ‘non-contact’ forms of sexual violence, such as online or verbal abuse, UNICEF noted in its report, which it said is the world’s first on the subject.’
In trafficking, it is always about supply and demand. The supply of women working in prostitution is huge and numbers or percentages are always mentioned, which are then immediately accompanied by writing that the actual number or percentage will be higher or even much higher than what we know. No matter how we think about prostitution or porn it remains a business where there is an awful lot of abuse and human trafficking.
The numbers and percentages indicate that there is a tremendous supply and this also means that there is a tremendous demand. So my question for years has been how do we make those (especially the men) realise that these days are ultimately for them. When demand drops, supply will also drop.
